McGuffey Arts Center
The McGuffey Arts Center is a converted elementary school that houses
visual and performing artists of diverse media and disciplines. In exchange
for this publicly subsidized space, artists are expected to be available to
the community. This transparency brings a "performing" element to all of
the arts: the artist's process becomes something that people can witness.
This openness continues to inspire the work of the Zen Monkey Project.
Charlottesville
The McGuffey Arts Center is located one block from Charlottesville downtown
pedestrian mall. The "Mall" is a vibrant cross-section of populations and
personalities who become quite lively in the summer. A "cafe" ambiance and
an incredibly warm community make hanging out not only a pleasure but a
fascinating show. Charlottesville itself is nestled in the foothills of the
Blue Ridge Mountains, 20 minutes from the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge
Parkway/Skyline Drive and home to the University of Virginia and other
historical sites.
